Hadith Explanation

A Prophet, a Siddique and Two Martyrs

“Anas (radi Allahu anhu) narrated that once Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam), Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman (radi Allahu anhum) went up Uhud (the mountain near Madina) and when it quivered because of them Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) kicked it with his foot and said, ‘Keep steady, O Uhud, for there are a Prophet, a Siddique, and two Shuhada on you.’” [Sahih Bukhari]

In the above hadith, Abu Bakr (radi Allahu anhu) has been called a Siddique, while Umar and Uthman (radi Allahu anhuma) have been prophesied as being Shuhada (martyrs). Umar (radi Allahu anhu) was assassinated in the year 23 A.H. when he was 61 years old, while Uthman (radi Allahu anhu) was assassinated in the year 35 A.H. when he was 82 years old.
