Hadith Explanation

First, Second and Third

It was narrated that Abdullah bin Shaqiq said: "I said to Aisha (radi Allahu anha), 'Which of the (Prophet's) Companions was most beloved to him?' She said, 'Abu Bakr.' I said, 'Then which of them?' She said, 'Umar.' I said, 'Then which of them?' She said, 'Abu Ubaidah.' [Ibn Majah - graded Sahih; Tirmidhi]

This hadith affirms the superiority of the three venerable Sahabah mentioned in it, for the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) had extreme love for all three of them. By the same token they were also loved by Allah (subhana wa ta'ala).

It was narrated that Abdullah bin Salimah said: "I heard Ali (radi Allahu anhu) say, 'The best of people after the Messenger of Allah is Abu Bakr, and the best of people after Abu Bakr is Umar (radi Allahu anhuma).'"

Thus Ali (radi Allahu anhu) also believed in the superiority of Abu Bakr and Umar (radi Allahu anhuma). Any statement to the contrary imputed to Ali (radi Allahu anhu) is pure fabrication.
