Hadith Explanation

Heavy in Balance but Light on Tongue

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “And magnify Him (say Allahu Akbar) thirty-four times when you go to bed, and praise Him (say Al-Hamdu-Lillah) thirty-three times, and glorify Him (say Subhaan-Allah) thirty-three times. That is one hundred on the tongue and one thousand in the Balance.” The Sahabah asked: “O Messenger of Allah, how come they are easy, yet those who do them are so few?” He (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “The Shaytaan comes to one of you when he is going to sleep, and makes him sleep before he can say them, and he comes to him when he is praying and reminds him of his affairs before he can say them.” [Abu Dawood]

It is so true that after each prayer we remember something that we must rush to do. Although, if we analyze what it is we get up for with such alacrity, we will realize that it isn’t usually a matter so urgent that it couldn’t wait the extra minute it would take us to do this Tasbeeh.

Indeed, Shaytaan is our avowed enemy. How could he let us get the reward of a thousand good deeds in a minute without at least trying to distract us?

Do make an attempt to defeat Shaytaan and accrue much Hasanaat for yourself with this simple Dhikr. Remember to take a minute after each Fardh prayer and at bedtime to do this Tasbeeh.
