Jinn Transformed as Punishment

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Snakes are the form into which some of the jinn were transformed, just as some of Bani Isra’eel were transformed into monkeys and pigs.” [Tabaraani]

This hadith informs us that some jinn were transformed into snakes as a punishment from Allah (azza wa jal) just as some of humankind were transformed into animals as a punishment. However, not all snakes are from among the jinn, only some are.
