Hadith Explanation

Jump Up for Prayers

Al-Aswad bin Yazeed al-Iraaqi al-Aabid said: “I asked Aisha (radi Allahu anha) about when he (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) would wake up for the night prayer (Tahajjud). So she replied, ‘He used to get up when he heard the cock crow and he used to jump and leap up.’” [Saheeh Muslim]

Aisha (radi Allahu anha) did not say that he (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) used to get up or stand up but that he used to jump up and leap up. This is proof of his fitness, liveliness and intensity of faith and firmness of intention. He (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) used to come towards worship with desire, determination and obedience.

You will see the righteous person constantly looking at the hands of his watch thinking, “When will the Muaddhin make the Adhaan?” “Has the time arrived?” Then he stands hastily.
