Hadith Explanation

Killer Dragged by Forelock

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “The one who was killed will bring his killer on the Day of Resurrection, holding his forelock in his hand, and with his veins running with blood. He will say, ‘O Lord, ask this man why he killed me,’ until he brings him near to the Throne.” [Sunan Abu Dawood]

Because of the seriousness of the crime of bloodshed, it will be the first thing on which judgement will be passed among mankind.

The person who was murdered will be able to go right up to Allah (subhana wa ta’ala)’s Throne for justice. He will drag his murderer with him and justice will be done to him.

It is interesting to note that the murdered person will be holding his murderer by the forelock. “Naseyah” is forelock/front of the head/forehead. There is not a word in revelation (Quran or Hadith) that is without purpose.

What is the relationship between the front of the head and sinfulness and aggression? Behind the skull in the forehead is the prefrontal area of the cerebrum. Studies in the last sixty years in Anatomy and Physiology hold it responsible for planning, motivating, initiating behavior, telling lies or speaking the truth, and consider it to be the functional center for aggression.
