Hadith Explanation

Makkah Beloved

“When the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) left Makkah and headed to the cave (Thawr), he turned back facing Makkah and said, ‘You are the most beloved land of Allah to Allah, and you are the most beloved land to me.’” [Ibn Jareer]

The Messenger of Allah’s love for Makkah was based on the noble status that Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) has given to Makkah. All Muslims should have this love and affection for Makkah because it is the most beloved land in the sight of Allah. We pray towards Makkah, it houses the Kaaba, and we go there to perform Hajj.

The above mentioned hadith of the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) cannot be used to justify nationalism. If the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) and the Muhajireen amongst the Sahabah (radi Allahu anhum) were tied to their homeland of Makkah by nationalistic ties they would have settled there after it became a part of the Islamic State. But they did not.
