Overflowing Wounds

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, no one is wounded for the sake of Allah – and Allah knows best who is wounded for His sake – but he will come on the Day of Resurrection with his wounds flowing with blood. The colour will be of blood but smell like musk.” [Bukhaari]

Once a wound heals it may be forgotten by the world, but a wound suffered in the Path of Allah is not forgotten by Him. One of the ways in which Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) will honour him who suffered for His sake is by making his sacrifice apparent to all. That person’s wounds will flow with blood but will not hurt him and the blood will have a wonderful scent.

Ibn Hajar said: “The scholars said, ‘The reason that he will be resurrected in this state is so that it is a testimony to his virtue, because he sacrificed himself in obeying Allah.’” [Fath al-Baari]
