Peeping

The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Whoever peeps into a house without its people’s leave, they may put out his eye.” [Sahih Muslim]

Peeping into people’s homes, looking into their cupboards, reading their correspondence, stealing looks into others’ private possessions, is a disgusting and disgraceful thing to do. Don’t do it with family, extended family, neighbours, friends, or anyone else. Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) has granted each person a right to privacy.

He who tries to see what he has not been granted permission to see is using his eyes to earn for himself a place in the Fire of Jahannum. Spying, whether done on an individual level, or government sponsored, is unlawful (Haraam).
