Hadith Explanation

Prayer for Host

“Abdullah bin Busr (radi Allahu anhu) reported that once the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) stayed as a guest with them. When the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) got up to leave, Abdullah’s father took hold of the bridle of his horse and requested: ‘O Prophet of Allah! Pray for us.’ Thereupon the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) prayed for him: ‘Allahumma baarik lahum feemaa razaqtahum waghfir lahum warhamhum.’” [Tirmidhi]

The meaning of this Dua is: “O Allah! Bless the provisions you have vouchsafed to them with Your increased bounty, grant them forgiveness and show them Your Mercy.”

Make a request to your guest to offer a prayer invoking the favour and grace of Allah on you, especially when the guest is a man of piety and excellent faith.

When you are a guest make this Dua for your host before you leave.
