Prayer on Laylat al-Qadr

The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “He who prays on Laylat al-Qadr in faith and expectation of its reward will be forgiven his previous sins.” [Sahih Bukhari]

The excellence of Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of the Divine Decree) can be judged by the reward of worship in it and the words of Allah Most High that it is, “better than a thousand months” [Quran 97:3] meaning that spiritual works therein are better than works of a thousand months lacking Laylat al-Qadr.

Laylat al-Qadr is the anniversary of the night that Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) sent the first ayaat of the Quran to Muhammad (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) through Angel Jibreel (alaihis salam). It comes within the last ten nights of Ramadhan, more likely on the odd numbered ones (remembering that the night of an Islamic date comes before the day of that date).
