Preventing Qassas

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “If anyone is murdered deliberately, someone should be killed in retaliation for him. If anyone tries to prevent retaliation taking place, on him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people.” [Sunan an-Nasai]

Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) says: “And there is life for you in retaliation (Qassas), O men of understanding, that you may restrain yourselves.” [Quran 2:179] The law of retribution (Qassas) when executed with its pre-requisites and conditions fulfilled, in the background of the total implementation of the Shariah, produces a society that is virtually crime-free. Such a situation is unimaginable by most today.

The penal and legal code from the Creator of mankind is better than any system developed by man himself. Allah’s love of us and His knowledge of how we work, far surpasses our love or knowledge of ourselves. Thus, when we suspend Allah’s laws and impose man-made law instead, then man, woman, child, society, and all creatures on earth suffer.

A murderer going unpunished causes untold suffering to the victim’s family and a chain reaction of crime results when would-be criminals see that they can get away with anything. Trying to prevent Qassas (retaliation) for a murder, or work in any way through word or deed to remove this law, causes a trillion fold curse to descend on such a person. This hadith tells us that this curse involves Allah’s curse and the curse of billions of angels and billions of people. Imagine how much greater must be the curse on the person who tries to prevent the implementation of the entire Shariah – all of Allah’s laws!
