Questioning versus Presentation of Account

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “No one will be called to account on the Day of Resurrection but he will be doomed.” Aisha (radi Allahu anha) asked: “O Messenger of Allah, does not Allah say, ‘Then as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, he surely will receive an easy Reckoning.’” [Surah Inshiqaaq: Ayat 7-8] The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “That is only the presentation of the account, but no one will have his account questioned on the Day of Resurrection but he will be doomed.” [Bukhaari]

On the Day of Judgement each person will be given his Book containing a complete record of the deeds which he did in life. The ways in which people will be given these Records will vary. The believer will be given his Book in his right hand, and from the front. His reckoning will be easy, which means the “presentation” of his account will be easy.

“The presentation” is the presentation of the believer’s sins to him, so that he may appreciate the extent of Allah’s blessings upon him when He forgives them for him. He will not be questioned in detail or harshly. Allah will forgive him his sins and he will then return to his family in joy knowing that he is one of the people of Paradise.

As for the Kaafir (disbeliever), Munaafiq (hypocrite) and people of misguidance, they will be given their Books in their left hands and from behind their backs. At that point they will raise their voices with cries of woe, praying for their own annihilation.
