Realize Who It Is From

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “No blessing is bestowed on a slave and he realizes that it is from Allah, but the reward of giving gratitude for it is written for him.” [Uddat as-Sabirin wa Dhakhirat ash-Shakirin; by Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah]

What are the etiquettes of love required for Allah and His beloved Messenger?

If you have ever been in love, recall what it was like to receive anything from your beloved. Recall what it was like to pass by the place where your beloved lived. The dust of the beloved’s street was more valuable than gold in our eyes!

But that love was misplaced! The emotion Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) created primarily for Himself, we didn’t give even secondarily to Him! We wasted it on earthlings, on those who couldn’t return a fraction of the love Allah lavishes on me!

We thought they were beautiful, because we hadn’t seen Allah’s beauty! Ignorant fools that we were!

When our state was to cherish even the most ordinary things coming from the beloved how should we value the gifts of Allah?

Matches are made by the decision of Allah (subhana wa ta’ala). Therefore, the Gracious Hand of Divine Fate has endowed me the wife that is in my home. Thus, nothing can compare to this Divinely granted gift!

Women should think likewise about their husbands. Children should think likewise about the blessings Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) chose to grant them in the form of their parents. And parents should think likewise about their children.
