Religious Scholar Mingling with Officials Most Cursed

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Indeed, Allah considers as the most cursed creation that Alim who mingles with government officials.” [Hafiz Abu Fityaan Dehastani in At-Tahdheer Min Ulema-es-Su’]

Just as there are many virtues extolled of and blessings associated with Ulema-e-Haqq in the pure Shariat of Islam, there are on the other hand extraordinary pronouncements regarding the outcome of Ulema-e-Su’ (evil scholars).

The biggest cause of the slipping of the feet of the Ulema-e-Haqq, so that they slide into the category of Ulema-e-Su’, is their keeping the company of rulers.

Whenever a scholar mixes with the ruling class, sits in the gatherings of governors and their ministers and deputees, eats from their dinner tables, walks to their doors and approaches them, considers it an honour to participate in their functions and conferences, tries to secure government jobs and high positions in their set-ups, invites them himself to his Masjid and Madrassa – then for sure he loses the ability to speak the truth before them and to them, he gets tongue-tied with respect to their transgressions, and the destructive illnesses of love of wealth and love of this world silently creep into his heart. Very soon he sells Allah’s Ayaat in exchange for the small and temporary benefits of this world.

In the words of the Quran, the Ulema-e-Su are, “Truly, those who conceal Allah's revelations in the Book, and earn thereby a small price, they eat nothing into their bellies but fire, and Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Judgment, nor will He purify them, and for them there is painful punishment. They are the ones who buy Error in place of Guidance and Torment in place of Forgiveness. Ah! What boldness (they show) for the Fire!” [Surah Baqara, Ayaat 174-175]
