Hadith Explanation

Removal of Yajuj and Majuj

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Then Eesa and his Companions will pray to Allah, and He will send insects that will bite the people of Yajuj and Majuj on their necks, so that in the morning they will all perish as one. Then Eesa and his Companions will come down and will not find any nook or cranny on earth which is free from their putrid stench. Eesa and his Companions will again pray to Allah, Who will send birds like the necks of camels; they will seize the bodies of Yajuj and Majuj and throw them wherever Allah wills. Then Allah will send rain which no house or tent will be able to keep out, and the earth will be cleansed, until it will look like a mirror.” [Muslim: Kitab al-Fitan wa Ashrat al-Sa’ah]

This hadith describes how Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) will rid the earth of the Yajuj and Majuj. Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) will have sent His faithful servants, Eesa (alaihis salam) and the Muslims with him, to the mountain of Toor where they will be sorely besieged by Yajuj and Majuj. Then when Eesa (alaihis salam) and the Muslims pray to Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) for relief, He will send insects that will bite the necks of the Yajuj and Majuj and they will all die together.

There will be so many of them that their corpses will fill the earth and the stench from them will be terrible. So Eesa (alaihis salam) and his Companions will pray to Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) again and He will send birds that are like the necks of camels. They will air lift these bodies and dispose of them. Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) will then wash the whole earth with rain such that it becomes wonderfully clean and beautiful again.
