The Last Prophet

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Messengerhood (risalat) and prophethood (nabuwwat) have ceased. There will be no messenger or prophet after me.” [Ahmed]

A prophet (nabi) is a person who receives revelation while a messenger (rasool) is a prophet who is also given a scripture or book. Thus, every messenger (rasool) is a prophet (nabi) but not every prophet is a messenger.

Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) says in the Quran: “Muhammad is not the father of any man among you, but the Messenger of Allah and the Last of the Prophets. And Allah has knowledge of everything.” [33:40]

This ayat from the Quran is an unequivocally decisive primary text establishing that there will be no prophet after Muhammad (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam). And since there will be no prophet (nabi), it follows that there will be no prophetic messenger (rasool).

Thus, everyone should know that whoever claims to be either a prophet or messenger, i.e. claims to be receiving any revelation from Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) has disbelieved in the Quran. The person who claims such a rank is a lying pretender, misled and misleading, even if he should stage miracles and exhibit all kinds of magic, talismans, and spells.
