Three Leading Angels

The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said to Jibreel (alaihis salam): “What is Mika’eel in charge of?” He replied: “The plants and the rain.” [Tabarani]

Mika’eel (alaihis salaam) dispenses the rain wherever and whenever Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) commands him to. He possesses a high position and great honour with his Lord. He has helpers who do everything he orders them to by the command of his Lord. They make the winds and clouds move as Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) wishes.

Jibreel, Mika’eel and Israfeel (alaihim us-salam) are the leaders of the angels. Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “These three angels are the guardians of all life. Jibreel (alaihis salam) is entrusted with the revelation by which hearts and souls are brought to life; Mika’eel is entrusted with the rain by which land, plants and animals are brought to life; and Israfeel is entrusted with blowing the Trumpet by which all creatures will be brought to life after their death.
