Urine of Shaytaan

Ibn Masud (radi Allahu anhu) related that mention was made before the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) of someone who sleeps throughout the night until dawn (without praying Tahajjud). The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “That is a man in whose ears Shaytaan urinates.”

Given that Tahajjud brings one on intimate terms with their Creator, and it clothes them in some of His light, and it enhances their experience of the sweetness of faith, and it provides them with the strength to shoulder the burdens of life, then how is it that such few people pray Tahajjud?

Al-Hasan said: “A man commits a sin and so (because of it) he is deprived of staying up at night.”

A man once said to a righteous man: “I am unable to keep on staying up at night; give me a remedy.” The righteous man said: “Do not disobey Him during the day and He will keep you up, between His Hands, at night.” [The Purification of the Soul]

If you have committed a sin don’t despair of the mercy of Allah Most Merciful. Repent, seek His forgiveness, resolve never to do it again, ask for Allah’s help in implementing your resolve, and ask Him to help you wake up for Tahajjud.

Additionally, recite the evening Duas recommended by the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) for protection against the Shaytaan and your Nafs, so they don’t prevent you from waking. At least, recite Ayat-ul-Kursi.

Don’t think that you missed Tahajjud. Think of what you did that prevented you from offering Tahajjud.
