Hadith Explanation
Virtue Saves from Consequence of Wickedness
The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Acts of kindness and virtue save a man from the adverse consequences of his wicked deeds. The charity that is given discreetly cools down Allah’s anger and kindness to relatives increases a man’s age.” [Tibraani]
When we throw a ball against a wall it comes back at us, because every action has an equal and opposite reaction. So also we should be aware that all our evil deeds will come back and hurt us. But while we are helpless against having a ball bounce back, we can prevent the fallout of our bad actions from hitting us.
Allah’s Messenger (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) told us that by being kind and doing good deeds we can escape the consequences of our wicked deeds.
He (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) told us that by giving Sadaqah in such a way that people don’t notice (so there is no worldly recognition and self-glorification), we cool down Allah’s anger directed at us due to our disobedience of His commands.
And he (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) told us that treating relatives kindly increases a person’s lifespan.
