Women Wearing False Hair

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “May Allah curse women who wear false hair or arrange it for others, who tattoo or have themselves tattooed, who pluck facial hair or eyebrows or have them plucked, and women who separate their front teeth for beauty, altering what Allah has created.” [Sahih Bukhari]

Probably the most commonly performed sin of the ones listed in this hadith is the plucking of facial hair and eyebrows. Imam Ibn Hajar Asqalani in Fath ul-Bari quotes Imam Nawawi as saying that “an exception from the prohibition of plucking away facial hair is when a woman has a beard, moustache, or hair growing between her lower lip and chin, in which case it is not unlawful for her to remove it, but rather is commendable.” Imam Ibn Hajar then says, “the permissibility is on condition that her husband knows of it and gives his permission, though it is prohibited if he does not, because of the deception that it entails.” [Reliance of the Traveller by Ahmad ibn Naqib al-Misri]
