Hadith Explanation

Worlds Apart But in Competition

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Whoever is in love with his life in this world damages his life in the next world, and whoever is in love with his life in the next world damages his life in this world – and you should prefer what lasts forever to what is destined to vanish.” [Ahmad ibn Hanbal; al-Musnad]

It makes perfect sense because you either make new clothes to wear for yourself or you clothe the needy. If you clothe the needy, you miss out on some “Wows” yourself; but if you buy the latest and best for yourself, you waste the money with which you could have bought the clothes of Jannah for yourself, by clothing the needy in this world.

Wahab said: “This life and the next life are like a man with two wives. If he pleases one he incurs the wrath of the other.”
