Looking at Others' Wealth
Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) saying, “Anyone who comes to this mosque of ours in order to learn a good thing, or to teach it, is equal to the Mujahid in the path of Allah, and whoever comes for anything else, he is like a man who looks at other people’s belongings.” [Ibn Majah, Sunan]
In other words, the benefit of being in a religious gathering is if one is there to either learn for themselves, or to teach to others. If anybody is there just to pass the time or gather degrees, it is as useless for them as is looking at other people's wealth. What would benefit a person is his/her own wealth, not the sight of what others possess. We should pray to Allah (subhana wa ta'ala) to purify our intentions and we should seek religious knowledge so that we may have the reward of the Mujahideen, the people most highly rewarded by Allah (subhana wa ta'ala).
