The Baker and the Farmer
The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said:
“Be good towards your parents and your children will be good towards you. (And) Look upon the womenfolk of others with purity (in conduct and intention) and your womenfolk will be looked upon with purity.” [Kanzul Ummal]
This Hadith enshrines the principle “as you sow, so shall you reap.” The good that you do will be done to you and when you do evil, it will be done to you too.
There was once a farmer who regularly sold a pound of butter to the baker. One day the baker decided to weigh the butter to see if he was in fact getting a full pound. He found that he was not. This angered him and he took the farmer to court.
The judge asked the farmer if he were using any measure. The farmer replied that he did not actually have any weights. But he did have a scale. The judge asked, "Then how do you weigh the butter?" The farmer replied "Your Honor, since long before the baker started buying butter from me, I have been buying a pound loaf of bread from him. Every day when the baker brings the bread, I put it on the scale and give him the same weight in butter. If anyone is to be blamed, it is the baker."
The farmer was simply giving butter that was equal in weight to the pound he was supposed to be getting from the baker!
We get back in life what we give to others.
